Volcano views from various angles

Me at Cagsawa Ruins

Me at Cagsawa Ruins

After the caves we went to Cagsawa ruins. We saw the remains of the church where people had been attending Mass when the volcano erupted in 1814. 1200 people were killed. Sad story. It's a very atmospheric place actually and really is right next to the volcano.

We had great views of the volcano that day. Someone in Legaspi told us that it was a “very shy mountain” meaning that it is usually covered with cloud, but we had great views of the top, smoking away, all day. At one stage I asked Pilip to pull over so I could take some pictures of the perfect cone rising above the palm trees. A group of guys working in nearby fields watched and waved “hey Jo” while I lined up my shots. Very surreal.
