Handel's harpsichord - replica

Handel's harpsichord - replica

This was a treat! A harpsichord recital on a fine reproduction of Handel's harpsichord, in the actual room on the second floor where he rehearsed with his musicians. The room is tiny, fitting only 28 chairs but we went early and had seats in the front row where we could see the soloist's hands. Satoko Doi-Luck had prepared a program of transcriptions for harpsichord: two Lully orchestral pieces transcribed wonderfully by D'Anglebert, a Geminiani violin sonata and a lute suite by JS Bach both transcribed by the composers, and a beautiful and virtuosic suite to finish, transcribed by Jean-Baptiste Forqueray from unpublished pieces by his father Antoine after he died. I was sad when the last notes faded away, such was the wonderful web of harpsichord sound created by Satoko Doi-Luck in a very special venue.
