Cambray Pool, Nannup
Finally broke 'camp' (from our apartment on the beach) and have hit the road again. Headed south along Caves Road which travels along the coast and from where most of the winery's are easily accessed. We popped into various beaches along the way and it's all sooo beautiful. The highlight was a beach called 'cozy corner', about 30kms north of the town of Augusta. Too beautiful for words.
We headed into Augusta to replenish our stocks for the days of camping ahead and stopped at a little fish cafe for lunch on the headland. It's supposed claim to fame is that it's the 'last eatery south before the Antarctic' (5837 kms away). We think this might be stretching the truth a little!
We reached our campsite at Cambray Pool late in the day. The site is very remote and the pool is actually a siding on a tributary of the Blackwood River. The pool was developed to service the steam train that carried the local timber – all that's left are a few tracks and some old ruins of the town. It became famous in the 60's as a site of
'alternative' festivals and now continues that tradition as it is a clothing optional site. As we were the only people for miles around, this didn't really make any difference to us, and too cool for anyone to be in the buff!
