Tuesday 25th August
Barcelona
Today was our last day to discover as much of Barcelona as we could. We started at La Ramblos and were a bit bored by its touristic nature. We tried the Museum of Erotica but that too was underwhelming, so we went to the logical next place after viewing 2000 years of (straight) erotica – the Cathedral. It was time well spent. The Cathedral was the whole shebang- Romanesque and Gothic all wrapped into one with a bit of 19th Century Romanticism to finish it off. After the Cathedral we toured down to the Port where we decided that a little dip in the Mediterranean was in order. Then we took the funicular across from the beach to the main hill of Barcelona, this affording us a spectacular view of this beautiful city. More walking and a little Metro to get home and then collapsing with a local beer.
But the day was not over. We knew we had an outrageously early leave time the following morning so we needed to pack tonight. Unfortunately this was waylaid by Paolo and Sergio (the Italians who were also living in our apartment). We ended up talking, laughing, drinking and eating with these two beautiful boys until 1:30am. It was amazing how the night flew by. The joys of travelling and making new friends. La Dolce Vita Español.
