We spent one very brief night in Kratie. It's not exactly a major tourist destination, but it was a perfect stop for us to break up the long bus ride to Laos.

Our book says that Kratie is the soul of Cambodia and I can see why. The people were incredibly friendly, waving and yelling hello as we walked through town. Kratie is also one of the best spots to view the endangered fresh water dolphins that call the Mekong home, but we decided to save our money for other adventures.
