Today we sailed through the Rhine Valley past many little towns, vineyards and castles. It is absolutely picturesque, beautiful green country side, rolling and steep hills and so much to see. We stopped after lunch at Rudesheim. We caught a mini train to the town and were to go to a music instrument museum “Siegfried’s Musikkabinett” but the queue was so long that Gerard and I decided to take the cable car up the hill to the big monument. It was enormous and the view was fantastic. This morning had been raining and so we had taken our coats with us, just in case and Gerard managed to leave his on the cable car. We asked about it on the way back but it was gone. We took lots of fantastic photos.
On returning to town we found out we couldn’t go through the musical instrument by ourselves, so we went shopping. We are meeting lovely people on the cruise and Ramon and Jo from England called us over to their table at a café and we had a unique coffee that is made with sugar, brandy that is burned for about 1 minute, coffee and cream and chocolate sprinkles. It was very nice and drunk hot through a straw. A bit weird as you don’t expect a hot drink through a straw.
We looked through the local shops, they have 3 million tourists in the town every year. We saw them make some special doughnut like pastries and tasted some strawberry syrup with champagne. We stopped in a shop and I bought a couple of tops and then we wandered back to the boat only to find we were the last on board and had just made it before the boat was ready to leave, apparently we will be named and shamed before dinner, but I doubt it. All aboard was at 4.45pm and we were here at 4.59pm and just as they were ready to away ship.
