In and Out of sky, Living with the Hui of Haba

China | Saturday, May 25, 2013 | 5 photos

I've just graduated from visual communication (majoring in photography) and i would like to make it in the industry.

For a very long time , I've been fascinated with the world beyond my comfort zone. I love traveling but not in the most generic way. I love tradition and culture more then anything else. My raison d'etre is to document life and places that has never been documented before. Places that are rich with traditions, culture, histories and stories. I want to be able to experience understand and seek education beyond the compound of school.

Quoting from sylvia plath. "I want to live and feel all the shades ,tones, variation of mental and physical experience in life", AND I want to be remarkable. I want to be able to document my travels and share them. Hopefully, people could find themselves in the livingroom, streets, city of the places they have never visited before through my images.

In and Out of sky is a photo documentary about a group of Hui ethnic village living at the foot of mount Haba, Tibet autonomous region of China.

The Hui descended from Xian china however decided to nestle at the foot of Mount Haba to lead a peaceful life.

Now with 400 villages and 98 families the Hui regard themselves as Hui from Haba though they have adopted a Tibetan's lifestyle.

My project is titled In and Out of sky because of the location. Haba is situated at an elevated height of 2626m above sea level. Haba also resembles as a form of Shangri-La (secluded paradise) as it is a valley filled with beauty and resources though hidden by the surrounding mountains.
