Left home early this morning to take Leanne and Yvette into Ronald Reagan National Airport - they flew out today for the second shoot of Restaurant Impossible, this time in Syracuse NY.
I took over the driving when they left and Leanne had advised me to take the signposted George Washington Parkway route. A mistake - that entry onto GW Parkway only goes north, so we were caught going the wrong way in the AM peak hour crush, competing for space with hundreds of madmen and women, each of whom was solely focussed on getting into DC and other places too numerous to mention. I looked casually though with vigour, for a spot to turn around, but ended up going across one of the many bridges over the Potomac, into DC proper and then magically finding another bridge which took me back over the same river, but still heading north. It was only when we travelled a little way along Spout Run Parkway, that I was able to pull into a shopping centre, get my bearings somewhat and finally work out how to cross over the road, onto one going south into Alexandria. After that it was fairly smooth sailing.
We arrived home, de-stressed and then worked out how to get to the Home Depot in Annandale, where we ordered the remaining material for the backyard. Apart from the grass (sod) we now have all we need and will leave the grass till last - I think the area to be grassed is about 50ft x 6ft.
The Home Depot stuff (pavers, pebbles etc) is to be delivered on Thursday, so that'll be the start of more frenzied activity.
