Photos: My Scholarship entry - A 'place' I have visited

The third is the owner of these hands. Her name is Joan, “Like the one on the firing stick”, as she said at our very first encounter. She was the elevator operator of the Nicholas Building for thirty-six years, the last of her kind.

The third is the owner of these hands. Her name is Joan, “Like the one on the firing stick”, as she said at our very first encounter. She was the elevator operator of the Nicholas Building for thirty-six years, the last of her kind. "Trapped in my cell, doin' me ups and downs, love" she'd say. I saw her almost everyday for seven months. We shared perspectives, and at times we clashed. She had her fears, she carried a heavy loss, and I found I've captured her quintessence.
