Monday July 6th
Today we met the four other Zonneveld's on the trip. Two are from Holland and the other two are from New Zealand. The are hilarious and were as happy to meet us as we were to meet them. We had a fun time talking and riding along side of them for a while. We were quite surprised to find as other couple of Zonneveld's on trip as were they.
We also met up with a number of Canadians. An entire group of British Columbia-ers. They were enthralled by the Bromptons, which have been quite the conversation piece. We have a met many people willing to talk to us on broken German or whatever just to talk to us about our bikes. It looks like I I'll be giving rides to people tomorrow.
Another group of Canadians are from Calgary and Winnipeg. It turns out that the two ladies graduated from SMA and one is a cousin of Nancy Schenkeveld...what a small world. They also graduated with my cousin Mary Lou. One degree of separation got even smaller.
As for our bike trip, we took the full route from Engleharstzel to Koblig, a return trip of 52 km. We detoured to a look out point, walking up and down for about an hour to see a beautiful lookout over the Danube River. A very active day and we are quite tired. The Bromptons are doing fine!
We were happy to see our little boat friends paddling down stream at the end of the day.
This bike trail is fabulous and flat!
Tomorrow we are headed to Bratislava, Slovakia. We have another bike trip and a tour of the city. We have chosen not to do most of the tours as they are sitting in a bus for hours on end in the hot sun. We are just going to take public transit and walk, no bikes in the big cities. 40 degrees tomorrow.
