Tuesday July 7th
Well, we were definitely melting. Many people decided not to go and some turned back after 5km. The path was along a hwy most of the the time. Heat reflected off the concrete in waves of nastiness. Anna and I chose to hide in every crack of shade that we could find. We had the intelligence to take 6 bottles of water and drank them all. Our ride took us from Bratislava to Haimsberg and back. Only 32 km, but it felt a lot longer than our 52 km yesterday. We stopped for an ice cream at the end of the path. One of the riders took ill and needed medical attention. She eventually made it back to the boat.
Tonight we are headed out to see Bratislava. It is apparently a beautiful city. More later...
We walked around until 9pm. It was great to get out of the mid-day heat, but was still very warm. We found an ice cream place and had a little snack. Mostly we just watched the people walking, sitting in cafes or bars and saw some beautiful old buildings. Apparently there isn't too much to Bratislava, but if you enjoy music and sitting people watching it is quite the place to be.
