Our trekking brought us up close and personal with "slash and burn" -- the practice of burning everything within large plots of jungle land for farming -- it seems to waste so much useful wood and clouds the skies with smoke. Still, as much as foreigners complain about the practice, the environmental damage done pales in comparison to your average Western highway.
