My Scholarship entry - A 'place' I have visited
Australia | Thursday, July 4, 2013 | 5 photos
As a young teacher of newly arrived refugees and migrants, I see photography as an unparalleled tool for self-expression. A photograph has the potential to surpass all barriers and differences in language, culture, religion and experience. It is transcendental and empowering.
My love of making photographs developed in school when I was working part-time for a photographer. He exposed me to different forms of photography and the interest I had in his work soon developed into a passionate hobby of my own.
This hobby has been facilitated by my love of travel, and I use images to record new physical, spiritual and intellectual experiences. I try to show the evocative character of new environments and cultures using the camera. Photography is liberating, as it allows me to express not just what I see, but also what I feel and imagine. I would love to develop my ability to capture this conceptual tapestry.
A recent journey through the deserts of Australia provided me with some opportunity to develop my technical skills and experiment with my photography. The mentoring opportunity in Greenland would greatly enrich my modest skill-set. I would relish and grow from such an experience.
