Kitty Crushes

UNITED STATES OUTLYING ISLANDS | Friday, 1 July 2011 | Views [192]

The cats (Wally and Freckles) had previously met when P cat sat for me this spring. The initial greeting was precarious at best. Freckles had to learn the spots over which Wally was dominant while Wally had to learn to give Freckles space to explore her new digs. By the end of the week the hissing and hallway growls had virtually ceased as the cats began sharing toys and food bowls.

I was pleasantly surprised that the cats had not all together forgotten about each other when I brought Wally to my apartment the other night, as I am cat sitting him for the next week. For about the first half hour there was not a single hiss or growl, simply cautiously sniffing one another and sharing a few face licks. I thought I had it made in the shade, thinking the cats were best friends again. However, Frecks was sure to let Wally know her claimed spots in my apartment (several of which surprised me!). All things considered, they are quite relaxed around each other. I am even tempted to say that Wally has a little kitty crush on Frecks. He keeps trying to follow her around and play with her but she wants nothing he´s offering. I am sure that will change by the end of the week!

It was laundry day for me today. Even though there are laundry machines in the basement of my building, I prefer my down-the-road laundromat rituals. This particular location has several TVs above the machines, half with American stations playing, half with Hispanic stations playing. The Hispanic stations are always louder than the American. I enjoy my.. weekly.. dose of TeleMundo's telenovelas (soap operas). I always find laundromats to be incredibly telling outlets to a person's life. You can learn a lot about someone from observing him or her at a laundromat. See for yourself and let me know what you discover!

Until next time!
