at home in the world Welcome to my chronicle. I have embarked on my 'global art studio tour' (GAST). Who knows how long i'll be gone or where exactly it will take me. I hope to meet as many artists, see as many studios, and make as much art work as possible before my return. If you wish to sponsor me, you will receive a peice of artwork, of your choice, after my return at the value of which you sponsor me. (does that make sense?) Put another way, you can pre-purchase artwork from me, if you would like. The two ways to get money to me are (1)Send it to my parents who will deposit it: c/o Ron & Janine Parrish, 9102 Towanna Tr., Austin, TX 78736, USA. OR (2) email me (via this website) for Paypal information. (my account is under my email address, if you already have that.) Thanks so much. Please comment as freely and frequently as you wish on articles and picture. ~heather

3 little facts

1)Ants - they're just a part of life here. There is absolutely no ant-free zone. At any time, any place, fair game for aunts. Pillow. Toothbush. Shopping mall. In the bechuk or car. And there's so many different kinds. On my porch in Ubud there were 2 main kinds - tiny blackies, and big red soldiers. The reds were deffinately the cast for the animated film 'Antz'. Long-legged, expressive head gestures. Would frequently look me up and down, and ocasionally take me on. They staged 2 main porch invasions a day - and they have sticky feet - hard to sweep off. I would counter-attack with vigorous sweeping, though often a few brave marines would make it up the handle and bite. Fair enough, i thought. (Right after I wrote this i went upstairs to find my new bag of cashews crawling with ants. I set them on the table for a second, then decided to go to the kitchen and pick out the cashews-not willing to surrender the little jewels to them. But, I got them downstairs and and, mystery, no ants. hm. interesting.)

2)I LOVE riding the train! I dreamed of seeing java from the seat of a train, and that dream was realized. I rode from Bandung (West Java) to Yogya (Central Java), and from Yogya to Malang-though that one started at 3am, so I missed out on a chunk of central java. Travelling by train in indo is almost as safe as flying. there was a train wreck the week before and 2 wrecks 2 days after i rode. Tidak apa apa, dong. (no problemo).

3)I eat exactly twice as much as Misi
