Holy Men of India

Taken along the Ganges River in Varanasi, India. Walking along the banks of the river in the early hours of the morning, I came across dozens of young Hindu men practicing their Yoga. Their beautiful stances and gentle body language adds a sense of peace and calmness to the frame whilst the sunlight washes them with vivid golden hues.

The composition in this portrait is quite a tight crop as this Sādhu’s weathered face and tired eyes said it all. The age-old saying ‘the eyes are the window to the soul’ definitely ring true in this frame. I see so much innocence and kindness in this old man’s eyes.

Taken outside of the Annamalaiyar Temple in Tamal Nadu, India. This scene was apart of a Hindu ceremony where holy men would lay down offerings to the deity Shiva. What caught my eye from this simple scene was how the evening glow of the sun was bringing all of these colours to life.
