Here I am in In Koh Chang. According to Wikipedia this is the second largest island after Phuket. Just in case I get bored just laying on the beach there are some other activities to choose from and places to explore. I am staying in the village called Lonely beach. There are several beaches here but I came to this particular one because it is known for budget bunglows therefore suitable for backpackers like myself. There are lots of young European people and less families. Some parties around but nothing too wild as of now. Perhaps in a week or two I wanna join one of the parties.
A day before yesterday I got here easily and smoothly without drama. A tax driver who offered to drive me down here to Koh Chang showed up in the hostel. He had his wife in his car as it was a long drive back for him, so he didn't need to drive alone. I thought it was kind of cute. I had a quick look for the prices for a minibus but it would have been more or less to the same and flying wouldn't have been that cheap either. I have had 3 flights in the past few days so I am done with airports until the next time. It is not the actual flying is dislike but the hassle at the airports. The bus service would have been provided from the airport. The taxi saved me from the hassle getting back to the airport and give me more flexibility, just in case I need to stop and quickly. Funnily enough my stomach behaved or no emergency stops had to be done. Cool.
I had received loads of tips where to go in Thailand which island is worth while going. After all I decided to go along with my original plan. there are so many options to choose from. I'll miss marvelous places for sure but I need to enjoy this place and experience. I'll to backpacking in Thailand some other time.
I got a small ascetic bunglaw to stay till April 5th for less than €300. I took the second one I saw. The first one would have been really cheap but areally small crappy room with a shared bathroom. I absolutely need my own bathroom since I am gonna stay here for quite some time. Probably the smartest idea would have been booked in for a night and shop around a bit more to find the best place but I just didn't feel like wander around. I got a way better discount since I paid the month in advance. With less than a tenner per day you gonna get more or less the same, somewhere you can sleep not exactly in luxury but comfortable enough.
I have all I need: a huge double bed, with clean linen, hot water shower, a nice small patio and an access to WIFI, I like it hot so I don't need a air con or a telly. There is kind of fresh wooden smell in the cabin. The bunglow is like a tiny Finnish summer cabin without a kitchen. The only thing I miss is some sort of press or wardrobe I could hang my stuff but well it doesn't really matter. I know myself too well. Most of clothes and items would be all place anyway even though I had a wardrobe.
The Lonely beach itself is rather small but it not too packed either. After all this is not the busiest tourist spots. this all will do for me. I heard that there are nice waterfalls. I have to go search for them at some stage. It is very green here. Yesterday it was sunny during the day but in the both nights there have been thunderstorms with heavy rain. It has been raining this morning as well. Last night it sounded like I was sleeping in middle of the rain forest, with all those exotic birds singing and other sounds of nature, heavy rain hitting the roof, fresh smell of rain coming in.Now it looks like the sun is coming out after all.
