The Kaminarimon or ‘Thunder Gate’ dominates the outer entrance to Sensoji with a magnificent five-story pagoda also overlooking the temple grounds. As seen here, a passer-by stops to pay her respects to Buddha in the quiet garden of Sensoji. by: hardy Views[219] Marked as a World Heritage Site, visitors to the temple embrace the sunset over Otowasan Kiyomizudera and take in the beautiful scenery of nature and the view overlooking Eastern Kyoto. by: hardy Views[227] O-mikuji, or ‘sacred lot’ tied to a metal wire line outside Otowasan Kiyomizudera Temple. O-mikujis are small strips of paper with fortunes written on them found at most shrines throughout Japan. Those fortunes that are bad tend to be left behind and tied to the metal wiring. However, some may tie good fortunes as well to increase the effect of their own. by: hardy Views[491] Rokuon-ji (鹿苑寺), or more commonly known as Temple of the Golden Pavilion (金閣寺) is famous for its walls covered in gold leaf. Originally dating as far back as the 1300s, Rokuon-ji was accidentally burned down in 1950 and later rebuilt in 1955.
