China

Visit to the Longji rice terraces, farmed for many centuries by the Zhuang and Yao minority groups. The beauty of the landscape and of the older people we saw along the way up stands in sharp contrast to the history, when these groups fled to the mountains (chased by Han Chinese who took their farmlands) and by necessity carved out terraces to grow rice.
