Friday it was officially 3 months I left home and this day started and ended badly. Laura, the Dutch girl I have been travelling with for the past week and a half and I took an overnight bus from the Town of 1770 to get to Airlie Beach so that we could check in for our Whitsunday boat trips.
We arrived at 06.15 on Friday and couldn't leave our bags until reception opened at 7am, when they then told me they didn't have my name down on the arrival list and there was no dorm bed for me. They had Laura's name but not mine, which is funny as we booked at the same time. They said they would upgrade u to a double, so wasn't going to argue with that and we were to check in at 1pm.
1pm rolls on and we collect our bags, I put a few of mine on the side to lift the ever increasingly heavy rucksack. Collected the others and discovered that I had put both bags onto a side with wet paint. I was really angry as there was no wet paint sign. The staff acted quickly and took both from me and cleaned them free of paint thank god.
Laura and I venture to our 'upgrade' and laughed so much at the sight of it. Imagine a prison cell as thats what it reminded us of. We just collapsed on the bed in shock. There was no window, no air con and the walls were painted grey. Only one night in that room luckily and the dorms are a lot better than the upgrade! You can't normally say that but in this case it was true.
To end the day I got a call from the sailing company to say that my boat, The Avatar has mechanical problems and will not be sailing at the weekend. I was gutted. Two girls from my Fraser Island trip were on the same boat too and it would have been so good. They also said no other boats for overnight trips were available this weekend as everything is fully booked.
Too tired from the overnight bus I decided to get a full refund and sleep on it to decide what I'd do next. It was a long day and just so happened lots of things went wrong being away from home for 3 months!
