Just come to the end of our time in Fiji. It has been amazing. We went straight to the further islands the day after we arrived, 5 hours away from the mainland by boat! It was worth getting away from Nadi as the beach wasn't up to much. I have offically become a beach snob now after visiting different islands!
This trip to Fiji I thought would be my relaxing time, to read and get a nice tan. I have done both but also have been quite active! It has involved Kayak trips to other islands when we really should've stayed put due to choppy weather conditions, trekking in flip flops just to see the sunset and hoping I would make it down in one piece! A caves trip which was pretty scary as we had to lower ourselves into this dark cave only to be told once we had got into the cave that an eel lived in their. I have slept on board a boat, snorkelled lots, went fishing, joined in local cermonies which involved drinking Kava which can only be best described as muddy water - disgusting stuff but you can't be rude and I have had to do that more than once. I have also weaved a bracelet, ring and bookmark from tree leaves with the local ladies, as well as make a bracelet from coconut shell. Stayed in a mixture of accommodation, some good, some bad and some really ugly. I did a summit walk at 5am to see the sunrise, starting off in pitch black using torch light and a lot of energy to get to the top. I was a little gutted when we had just missed it coming out of the specific ocean.
Louise celebrated her birthday last week and we snorkelled in the morning with.........sharks! Can't believed I did it considering the amount of nightmares I have had leading up to this trip which included sharks. It was amazing though, they were reef sharks and they did come up quite close to us, one a bit to close for my liking. I took photos so I hope they came out. It was totally worth doing. On the way back to our base we saw a dark shaddow in the water and it was pretty large, it had a fin and goes by the name of hammerhead shark! If I had seen that on the way out to the reef I would have reconsidered entering the sea.
It is true what they say, it is a small world when you travel. So far in my two weeks I have come across two Thomson Reps, Laura and Cat, who worked in Mallorca the same time as me and we have been to the same parties, just never really crossed paths. Also Graeme and Ellie who we are travelling New Zealand with us now. They both have studied at Derby Uni at the same time as me and we know someone in common - freaky!
I am about the run out of money on the internet now - I most likely will update this when I get a chance. We are off to New Zealand tomorrow. We have met a few people from New Zealand whilst in Fiji, which is great as we now have them to visit too!
