So farwellSrilanka, hello India. Well
things have got off to a positive start and after catching the Red eye from
Colombo to Chennai we get a taxi (which is a throw back of a 60’s British
luxury car and quite cool) down the coast to a little town called Mamallapuram.
It is known as a hippy / back packer
little surf town and first impressions are good with us finding a nice
room for a good price and its very clean and just back from the beach. The little town is kept reasonably clean by
the locals and there are lovely little restaurants everywhere. Also Grom has to
take advantage of the perfect right barrelling wave so he is happy to be back
in the water. It is exactly what we needed as Sri Lanka’s greed and rip off
tourist prices starts to wear you down after a while, to the point that at the
last hotel the receptionist decides to add a tourist tax to the bill and when
Graham said that was not agreed in the price and he never said there was such a
tax, he was told that he never asked. Just another little scam that
unfortunately sums up Sri Lanka. Don’t get me wrong, there are some lovely
people and beautiful things to see there but the greed and corruption of a few
take a lot from the experience.
