    A simple wooden cross marks the grave of Vera Foteva. It is immediately covered in bunches of flowers, representing the respect and admiration people have for her. by: gogofski Views[1026] Past and present merge when friends and family gather round to remember Vera as the hero not only she once was, but the hero she will always be. According to local tradition, the body is rest in the grave of the parents. Vera now rests with her mother, Vena. by: gogofski Views[583] The two sons of Vera Foteva look at their hero mother with sadness, acknowledging her importance both as a national figure and as a great person. by: gogofski Views[1542] As part of the tradition, people hold lit candles during the funeral ceremony, carefully keeping them from being blown out, until they burn on their own. Candles symbolize the soul of the dead and represent a quiet prayer for peace. by: gogofski Views[735] Vera Foteva is one of the greatest Macedonian partisans from the Second World War. Having lived through battles, imprisonments, beatings, deportation in Siberia, etc, she died at the age of 85. Her funeral was a traditional orthodox ceremony that attended many of her family members, friends and a few of the last remaining living partisans.
