Travel Photography Scholarship 2012entry

I am 63 years young! In 1987, I was introduced to serious photography by a wildlife expert, while on a long voyage to Antarctica. Ever since that soul stirring experience, my love for still photography has remained unabated. I retired in July 2010 and I am fully fit physically, and mentally inquisitive and adventurous. I was requested by a Non-Government Organisation to prepare a Photo Feature showing the effects of climate change on coastal populations. I readily accepted. But the assignment is not going to be easy. How does one show the effect of a phenomenon that is so slow in happening? I am sure the mentoring by Jason will be invaluable. I hope to learn how National Geographic photographers approach issues; what kind of scripts they prepare; what are the essentials of inclusive composition; how to design readable articles and documents, mixing texts and pictures; and so on. Thereafter, I hope to tell a persuasive story so that the vulnerable coastal communities are motivated to anticipate global warming in all its dimensions and prepare themselves to counter the adverse effects.
