    Everyone was happy and again proud of their name. by: gbmukherji Views[214] The Nyishis are an ancient tribe living high in the East Himalayan State of Arunachal, India. They are extremely proud of their ancestry, heritage, physical strength and prowess in hunting. Their ceremonial attire has feathers of eagles, bear hair, claws of panthers and auspicious beads of various types. by: gbmukherji Views[705] On 19th April 2008, the climax was a function which saw some 1600 ladies dancing before visiting dignitaries, followed by a night long feasting and merry-making. by: gbmukherji Views[258] Yet their pride was punctured some 100 years ago by the British when they officially gave them a derogatory name that actually meant: those who split their enemies in half. The heritage tribe petitioned Government of India to accept their traditional name: Nyishi, and till that happened, they felt culturally imprisoned and quite miserable. by: gbmukherji Views[266] In late 2007, when this change was forseen, the Nyishi world burst into song and dance.
