One of the things I remember most about this place is its food. Without using an enormous variety of ingredients, the women manage to create remarkable flavors in their cuisine. The African tradition of porting just about anything on the head makes its way into the kitchen of Divina who has the particular custom of eating directly from a plate precariously balanced upon her head.

Gloria is the mother of two children. Her husband, like many men in the area has emigrated to the U.S. Gloria also lived in the US for a brief period. In the end, she didn´t feel gringa or Mexican, and ultimately decided to return to Minitan.

Fishermen go out in the morning and return in the afternoon. They are allowed to fish commercially only 4 months a year, but they continue to fish the rest of the year for family consumption. Many young people now see no future in fishing and emigrate to the United States, those who remain say they like to fish because it fills them with a quiet sense of peace.
