Queenscliff isn't quite on the open coast, you have to go a bit further around this bay to Point Lonsdale in the distance with the lighthouse. It's about a 45 minute walk along sandy beach to get there.

First view of Queenscliff, in the late afternoon. Queenscliff is an old seaside town and still a favourite day or weekend trip from Melbourne. The pilots who navigate ships through The Rip are based here and go shooting out in their little pilot boats a few times a day to meet up with the ships.

The main street of Queenscliff, taken from the balcony of the hostel/hotel I was staying in. The Vue Grand Hotel is across the street, famous for its top floor lounge which unfortunately was only open on weekends.
