First view of Queenscliff, in the late afternoon. Queenscliff is an old seaside town and still a favourite day or weekend trip from Melbourne. The pilots who navigate ships through The Rip are based here and go shooting out in their little pilot boats a few times a day to meet up with the ships.

The opposing ferry on its way to Sorrento, with The Rip (entrance to the Bay) in behind. Some of the fiercest currents in the world take place right here, it is one of the most treacherous waterways in the world but the only way into Melbourne.

Queenscliff isn't quite on the open coast, you have to go a bit further around this bay to Point Lonsdale in the distance with the lighthouse. It's about a 45 minute walk along sandy beach to get there.
