Teboho roams with his cattle. Herders spend much of their time alone with their flock. In the highlands of Lesotho, where pastures are more scarce, herders can spend up to six months away from their families wandering with their herd.

Teboho, a young herdsman from the same village as Makalo, is wrapped in the traditional Basotho blanket. He is the eldest grandchild and the family breadwinner. He begins his day leaving his siblings, their grandmother, who is their sole caretaker and the little hut they all share behind.

The noise of passersby traveling on the road behind him gets the attention of this lone herder collecting his thoughts. He sits on the metal railing of a meandering highway while watching his herd in the distance as the sun glistens on his face. It is not uncommon for herdsman to cross paths with one another every so often in a country where it is estimated that three quarters of the population live in rural areas, where poverty is prevalent and herding is a necessary way of life for so many.
