Day 46: So glassy

USA | Friday, 23 January 2015 | Views [195]

We were recommended to check out Fort Bragg's tourist attraction: Glass Beach. Google it, looks fantastic, the sand is a collection of tiny granules of coloured glass. Looks spectacular and we assumed the currents had taken glass to the beach over time - only to find out that it was actually a dumping ground back in the 50's. Yeah, someone thought "hey, you know all those tyres, glass and crap that's accumulating in our town?..how about we chuck it in the ocean...!?". So imagine what a beach would look like 20 years after they take the tyres and most of the crap away and the glass remains...then you have Glass Beach...miss it if you can. But hey, we drove through Avenue of the Giants - mega Redwood trees right nest to the road....massive and beautiful. Staying in Arcata, CA with Chris, Air bnb, 2 nights. Took Mocha for a walk, so cute!
