Currently in Buenos Aires...without doubt one of the greatest cities in the world. Having originally planned to stay only one week, we extended to 10 days as we just couldn't bring ourselves to leave. There is a ridiculous amount to see and do here, and we are trying to fit it all in amongst clubbing until 7am, so it's been hectic. Much to my delight, our second day here was spent at a huge market, followed the next day by shopping on the biggest shopping street in the city. The exchange rate is certainly working to our advantage, and having come from Brazil, the most expensive country in S. America, we are loving being able to live relatively cheaply in B.A (with a really good meal, inclusive of wine, consting less than a tenner)
Aside from numerous shopping trips (one of which involved the discovery of an amazing shop in which I bought a vintage Prada purse...a traveller essential clearly!), we have been to see a tango show at the oldest cafe in B.A and visited Boca (home of the Boca Juniors stadium) which has various brightly coloured buildings and great graffiti as well as cute cafes with ongoing tango shows. We've also eaten at the two best steak restaurants in the city, the second of which served steaks big enough for 3 people and left everyone at the table utterly defeated. We have a not entirely successful day trip to an area called Tigre yesterday (a series of canals and rivers with houses dotted along the river edge..meant to be a really pretty "must-see", which ended up with us eating a BBQ lunch at some ramshackle house in the middle of nowhere surrounded by chickens. It was interesting...!
We have of course taken full advantage of the notorious night-life here, and partied in some amazing clubs. A huge number of people we'e met along the way have all been in B.A at the same time as us, so it's been great to be reuinited. Plus, weve met up with 3 Argentinian guys we became friendly with in Rio, so they've shown us B.A from a local's perspective, and took us to a great new club here with a stunning outdoor roof terrace, as well as putting on a genuine Argentinian BBQ for us.
All in all, we have fallen in love with this city, and could probably stay for another 4 weeks. But onwards to Cordoba, and in a couple of weeks we will be in Bolivia...
