HAPPY NEW YEAR to you all.
Well were here, and talk about busy! Em summed this place up perfectly “This is Newquay in the silly season” and she is seriously right, our first impression was utter shock and disappointment; don’t know what we were expecting but not this. An example, there is a walkway bridge over the river at the rear of the Hostel which leads to a highly recommended ‘Fish & Chip’ takeaway; the bridge is only 50 mtr’s long and took over ½ hr’ to get over and same on the way back. We choose to head to the beach the next day and again, so busy that we could not even park the van EVERY available space was taken; including all the grass banks on the hills. So back to the hostel and take a Kayak out for a couple of hours. Our New Years eve was spent in the hostel drinking a few beers, just as we planned; a lovely night relaxing. At midnight ‘all hell let loose’ the noise was incredible to hear. On new years day the hostel was so quiet it was surreal, we thought Christmas took its toll. To say there was no one around is simply how it was; NO ONE even raised a head until at least 1400 hr’s; only Em and I walking around worried about making any noise in case we woke anyone. We had a good New Year, but to be honest we could not wait to leave Raglan; it was just TOO busy. We were on our way to Katikati again, same hostel so nice and relaxing while the van gets a service.
