Dublin to Killalou

IRELAND | Thursday, 31 January 2008 | Views [414]

What a gorgeous little place Killalou is!

After setting out from Dublin we headed across the country to a quaint little village called Killalou. I can't say that I was able to take in much of the scenery as I fell instantly asleep the moment we set off. I was absolutely knackered.

We arrived about 8.30pm, and the body just wanted to sleep. Kate and Brian managed to get me out to a little pub called 'Gooses' for a quick bite, I think i am lucky I didn't fall asleep in my meal. This night I tried my first real Irish Stew and I must say it was pretty good! The mash wasn't really up to par, but what can I say, nothing will ever compare to your own home-made stuff!! We headed home after only one drink, as I was barely able to keep my eyes open!

The jet lag hadn't really affected me yet, so I was wide awake at my usual wake up time of 6.30am, except over here it is still pitch black and bloomin cold! Eventually Kate and Brian awoke and we began our next adventure...

As we are pulling out of the carpark of Brian's townhouse, we felt a bit of a lag on the hire car and heard this strange noise. Kate pulled into th petrol stations just down the road, and we soon discovered we had a completely flat tyre!!!

Well...this was going to cause a few issues, so I thought! Neither Kate or myself knew how to change a tyre, which is something i really should learn to do, and Brian, who can't even drive, didn't have much clue! However, due to his last embarrassing incident of not knowing how to change one, he came to the rescue and managed to do it perfectly, just a tad longer than most others though i am sure! (He admitts that he watched closely the person who last changed his and Kate's flat tyre so he knew for next time.)

Off we go to get a new tyre, much to our annoyance, and was told it was going to cost 60 Euro! Stupidly we said fine, we have to get the tyre, but the guy ended up not having any in stock and advised us of another station to go to...thankyou to whoever was watching over us as this station only fixed the puncture at a charge of 7 Euro...wooohooo! Crisis adverted!

Once again we wer off on our adventure to the Cliffs of Moher, which were absolutely stunning, yet bloomin cold due to the sea breeze. I have to say though, that we have been extremely lucky with the weather and have had very little rain. Just a chill in the air!

I did manage to capture a lot more of beautiful green country side today. There really is some amazing landscapes over here! Oh, the country rides are shocking. I am very lucky that I don't suffer from car sickness, you are constantly beign thrown around and going over bumps etc..

This night we set off to a little pub called Molly's...once again the food was pretty good. Kate did have a random come up to her and scare the hell out of her, due to mistaken identity...I don't know who was more embarrassed, Kate or the guy! He couldn't stop apologising! A few beverages were consumed, a dangerous walk back across the bridge and home we went!
