The Trip Over...

IRELAND | Saturday, 26 January 2008 | Views [377]

Well...today is my first day in Ireland, and it is just as I thought, bloody freezing! The windchill is what gets you.

The first leg of the trip, which was 15hrs, was a blur. I think i watched 6 movies, had a steward spill a drink all over me and the person that was sitting next to me, and had babies crying all around. Basically I got NO sleep, but wasn't feeling too bad. I had to hang around Abu Dhabi airport, which was a tad on the interesting side. That place is crazy busy at the wee hours of the morning! There were people everywhere. I have to say I did feel a bit out of the comfort zone, being a female travelling on her own, but I survived.

Much to my annoyance the 2nd leg of the trip involved approximately 2hrs sleep and another 3 movies being watched. Let's just say, I am now totally up to date with the new releases. Due to my excitement though, I really haven't felt the sleep deprivation as yet.

Kate was at the gate as promised and it was an almost tearful re-union! Lots of hugging and shock at the realisation that I was actually in DUBLIN! We proceeded to hire a car, and the usual 30min trip to Kate and Brian's apt (so Kate says) took approximately 2hrs!! Seriously, after 24hrs of sitting on a plane, my butt was completely numb by the time we arrived at their apartment in Blackrock.

We have since done some shopping, eaten out and had a famil of the Brooks Hotel (so maybe i can claim part of my trip on tax?!) which is the Hotel Brian works in. It is a really beautiful boutique style hotel, the rooms are lovely and have the highest beds i have ever seen!

Currently we are waiting patiently, in the residents lounge, which is where they send guests when rooms aren't ready, (i must say is a brilliant idea!) for Brian to finish. We are heading across to Killalou, where Brian's family has a house and staying there til Sunday, here we can take in the sights of Ireland's lavish surrounds and the Cliffs of Moher. On Sunday we are heading to Galway, which is where Brian will leave us and head back to Dublin for work. Kate and myself i am sure will find something to do!

That is about it for now, Kate is falling asleep on one of the comfy couches, which is where i am heading. The body is now starting to crash. The sun has gone down, and it is only 4.30pm, so the body is thinking it is much later.

Until our next adventure...
