Laapse, combination of the word Laa, meaning place and Pse, referring to the deity who presides over this land. Juniper Tree branches are burnt and prayer flags tied to Lapse, wishing that the wind will take the message and prayers to heaven, making them come true.

Lilting to the narrative of local deities and folklore, hymns are sung as cold mountain air blends with the melody. After that, the women brief the men, before the latter proceed to Lapse, where prayer flags are tied.

The community is nearing the crossroads of preserving traditions or embracing the modern, with younger generations having migrated for work to urban cities have started finding traditional practices unnecessary. In an attempt to preserve the heritage, interestingly, a fine of Rs. 200 (roughly $ 4) is taken by the village council if one fails to stick to the “dress” code. Dressed in chollu, the traditional attire, resident Tashi Tenzing observes the final leg of the proceedings as light blends into twilight.
