Hi All,
Sorry my last post was incomplete. I saved part and went back and finished it but the internet went down before it saved.
Thanks for your comments. It is so good to hear from home. Yes, Linda, Travis is keeping my parents informed.
The seminar was incredible again this year. We had 20-25 students attend all or part of it. It never ceases to amaze me how they just soak up every bit of information we can give them. They retain it and can give it back to you. Yesterday was a long teaching day. Stephanie and Ellie led off with pre/post natal care and breastfeeding. Phenominal job! We have concluded next year we just need to get a bunch of women together in a room with Dr., nurse, any other women's health care provider and just let the questions fly. We take our knowledge of our bodies for granted. These ladies are amazed at the basics of health women's health care.
Justin followed this topic with discussing HIV/AIDS. We did not know how discussing this sensitive subject would go, but they were very open to all the info. They recognize it is a great concern in Cambodia and are ready to discuss it and attack the problem. Another great job by Justin.
Craig is always the hit of the seminar. They love his physical therapy teaching. We again had a "plank" contest. Think of holding a push-up at the high point while resting on you toes and forearms. Pat managed to hold on for one minute. The Cambodian contestant went out at 2 min. and above. It left Justin and Steve M. to finish. 3 min. then 4 min. still hanging on. Age and youth facing off. Youth finally couldn't hold on much after 4 min. 57 year old Steve now owns the plank title and the nickname "rebar." Well deserved accolades!
Steve finished up the teaching with excrement disposal, flies, & misquitos. He asked before the trip what he did wrong to deserve these topics! He did great job. That is why we entrusted them to him. Again basic info to us means the world to them.
We finished up the seminar with them having time to practice using the new information and then role playing scenarios using the info. They were able to put it into perfect use. THEY GET IT! They understand the info and how to put it to use. I know, 100% positive, that lives will be changed in Cambodia. Not only will health be improved and lives saved but souls will be saved as well. They see this ministry not only for health but also for evangelism. Churches have already been planted through use of this. I know more are to come. People are seeing the love of Christ through these health promoters and turning their lives over to him. All the praise and glory goes to God.
We will worship in Phnom Penh tomorrow morning, then the team will split and go in separate missions. Part of the team will leave for 2 days in Kampong Chnang and 2 days in PP. The other, my team will go up to Battambang for 4 days. Where we will go out to from there I don't know. Each team will be going out into communities with our health promoters. This is their time to shine. It is always an emotional time to go out and see the lives and conditions the Cambodian people are living under. Pray for travel mercies, sensitivity to the needs see, and open hearts to minister too.
I will check in as computer access allows me. Thanks for your prayers.
