Spent the last few days travelling down the east coast. Stayed at Kuala Terrenganu first night which was surprisingly nice. Only really stopped to break up a long drive but the hotel was really nice overlooking the river and the floating mosque. Quaint chinatown close by as well. The 5 hour journey on a single carriageway was interesting!! There was undertaking, overtaking and double overtaking, bikes and mopeds going in the opposite direction on our side of the road, and to top it off a guy on a moped overtaking a lorry coming towards us was laying face down on his seat!! I can only think it was to improve his aerodynamics to get him past the lorry!! Mark needed a tiger beer after that journey, thankfully we found a bar in the naughty corner of town!! Following day we stopped at Cherating, the first and hopefully the last dodgy hotel. It was called Legends and I think it was legendary for how dirty it was!! Decided to eat a pot noodle and drink whiskey on our balcony (which I cleaned) rather than risk the filthy restaurant. Which was very nice, top pot noodles here! Stopped at really nice old mining village on our way to the next destination. We climbed bukit panorama which was very hot but lovely. Felt like celebrities in this village as everyone spoke to us, I don't think they get many white westerners visiting – it was a really nice experience. We are now in Jeranut, the gateway town to the jungle in a very nice, clean hotel. Off to the jungle tomorrow.
