Hi All,
Backstreet cafe. Room 401. Remember Hanna as she runs
the cafe. It is really homely as it is family run. We moved from our
deluxe room on the 1st floor, as it was booked, to a room with a
balcony and superb view over looking a vegetable garden and chickens in
an unlikely place in the town and overlooking some unbelievable
scenery. An excellent downgrade indeed!!!
Back on pushbikes
again. We chose to head out to moon hill which was about 8.5km out of
town. Superb views. Crazy traffic but we are getting used to it. We
didn't get far before spotting a strawberry field and grabbed a bag for
later. Well later started about 10m further along the road...Saw an old
lady on a tricycle was being towed along by a female buffalo closely
followed by a calf. Stopped to watch a couple of rockclimbers scaling
one of the near vertical limestone hills then headed off again only to
pull up at the yulong river, jade green, crossing to see a bamboo punt
with tourists and a girl singing through a megahpone to the
clients. Have to use the available equipment I suppose.
Found
moon hill. Named as it has a circular hole through the top of it. Kept
on riding to the next village and then had to backtrack as the end of
the road. Went back to next turnoff and found a river crossing with an
old lady and just a couple of buffalo heads above the water. The
heads soon rose to reveal the rest of the live buffalo as the old lady
led them away. Perfect spot for another envy photo so I got Vanessa to
ride across the river crossing with bamboo clumps either side of it and
snapped off a photo as she was midway across.
It was quite warm
today. Probably the hottest weather we have encountered for a long
time. We found a nice spot by the river under the shade of a bamboo
clump and watched bamboo punts (not PVC) with Chinese tourists drifting
past. Vegemite and crackers for lunch of course. Plenty of hellos
exchanged before we moved on. The road was so rough we had to walk the
bikes to the next road. Another stop to finish the strawberries. The
road led us to a tourist area on the river with a lot of bamboo punts
which wasn't our intention so we got out of their with the call of
bamboo you want bamboo trailing off into the distance.
We headed
back towards Yangshuo and found a turnoff to a hidden valley and
followed our way up to a viewing area in the sadle between two hills.
Not much of a view. It was really hot and we grabbed some more water
and softdrink from the supermarket before heading down to the wharf
near the town and cooling off by the river which was shaded. Later we
returned the bikes and retreating back to the hostel.
Nice day
out. Vegemite was running out so went back to the small store stocking
international food and bought the remaining Vegemite jar. Yes
desperados.
Today we took it easy and just relaxed around the
hostel and walked in town. Our first jar of vegemite is gone. Only
lasted a few days.
Magic place. We will probably be back one day...
Tomorrow we will be off to Thailand!
Bye,
David and Vanessa
