Aleppo, Syria

Hi All.

Yet another 20 hr bus trip! No eating or drinking. This was a stop when the bus driver needs a bathroom break type of bus trip.

Arrived at Antakya in turkey near syria border. Looked for accomodation but not a tourist town. Found some expensive hotels but too tight for that so just went to mosaic museum.

Mosaics were awsome. Dug up and stuck on concrete backs then taken back to museum. So many of them. All roman. I think that I was more enthusiastic about them than Vanessa but we both liked them and it was worth the 8TL each. Vanessa is still sick.

Went to book a bus trip to Aleppo in Syria but told yes bus at 1130am then told no no bus until tomorrow then you could take a taxi for 5TL extra. Hmmm. Took the taxi.

Rally driver in taxi. Got us to the border in record time. Border crossing was going smoothly. Checked out of turkey drive through style then in immigration problems. Other than the continuous queue jumping with passports stuffed with money by others we had a problem with the nepal stamp. There is a star of david shape in the nepal stamp and the immigration officers thought it might be israeli. Took four of them in conference to decide to let us in. Was a touch and go type situation. Two load explosions outside didnt help with the tension.

Picked up a guy after the border. An amazing exchange of hand signs for the price at a rapid rate.

Rally driver almost got us killed. Swerving in between two cars at 100km per hour. It was really close.

Got to Aleppo in record time and luckily met by someone from the hostel we wanted to stay. Spring flower hostel.

Out of time on internet.

Bye.

David & Vanessa
