Finally here in Rio after 28 hrs of bus trip. Tired and cranky.
Had to throw sensibility out the window with the computer images. Went out and bought a USB card reader for SD and have tranfered the files from the hard drive to a card then used the reader for the transfer to the computer. How stupid. Have at least a few extra images are in the blog now.
Well the dorm in el misti had tall beds. We had the second and third level in a room of 9 people. One draw of the hostel was the free drink. Seemed like this might have not been a good idea as the hostel livened up to a party by about 9pm and we thought it might rage on but it didn't and all was quiet by 12.
The jesus statue is relatively small with respect to the mountain size and rio. It is the wet season so when we arrived all that was visible was his feet and we had to wait until the next day to see all of him. My mental image was that he would be larger! Unrealistic as he is only 38m tall.
Went out to one of the the favala (slums) down near copacabana beach. It essentially is the good and bad side of the tracks. Reminded us of what was at la paz so it wasn't a shock.
Wandered around copacabana beach. Some strange sights down there! Plenty of people in next to nothing parading themselves. Boys with amazing soccer skills played 'soccer' volleyball and displayed their ball skills.
Thought we could fit in just one more trip before leaving south america. Booked a bus to Salvador and off we went...
