Hola All,
Just sitting around at Puerto Williams reading a book about 7pm in the evening, waiting for the Bus & zodiac trip tomorrow when John walks in with Dennis a swiss local. John? John the captain of a 50ft yacht heading to Ushuaia in 30 min he says - take it or leave it. We are quite surprised as no yachts were expected but suddenly they arrive at the yacht club where Paul and Marriete have their boat moored and suddenly they have arranged for our transport. Thanks guys.
Vanessa and I look at each other and made the snap decision to go. The cost was US$70 each and a 6hr boat trip rather than the 1.5hr bus trip and 30min zodiac trip which would have cost US$120 each. John was anxious to leave as bad weather was on the way and the harbour would likely be closed early in the morning for a couple of days. We drop by to the navy harbour master and get stamped out of chile.
So off we head. Beautiful as we sail out of the harbour with the view of the mountains and the weather is great. The wind on our faces as we move forwards is extremely cold and we head downstairs for the evening. Lucky us as we have a double bed at the front of the boat and retire early. We arrive in the ushuaia boat harbour at about 2am and anchor. Need to get
stamped in at Argentina in the morning.
Wake up to strong winds, snow, rain etc and the harbour is closed for 2day. After a long breakfast with the family we get dropped on shore with the small boat from the back of the yacht and head to get checked into argentina by the argentinian navy.
Now staying at the antarctic hostel for a couple of days.
Ushuaia is a tourist town with a souvenir shop every second shop along the main street.
Adios,
David & Vanessa
