Villarrica

CHILE | Tuesday, 23 September 2008 | Views [1012]

Hola All,

Slummed in on the bus again. Full cama armchairs and the whole cabin to ourselves.

We are at Villarrica which is about 30km from Pucon. Staying on the second floor of a swiss chalet (well in principal) and we have an amazing view of the snow covered and active villarrica volcano. The town is on a large lake and pucon is at the other end.

Went for a look at pucon. Basically a ski town and apparently the adventure capital of the region. We thought about booking for the volcano climb then decided 5hrs in crampons wasn´t much fun. Place was basically queenstown NZ.

Watched a nice parade in the street of pucon. A group from north chili strutting their stuff. Very carnival.

Went to the national park instead and wished we had crampons as the walk took us to a slippery snow area anyway. We were glad to have two walking poles for the snow and mud. Walk was worth it as it took us through a heavily wooded area up to 3 lakes at about 1200m. Great place for eggs on bread lunch. Vanessa only looked at the first lake before heading down and I zoomed around looking at the others. We were on a tight time budget as the bus returned at 5pm and we felt we were at risk of missing the bus.

Next day went for a picnic at licon ray. Another beautiful lake with a nice penisula to walk. The town was definately asleep which was quite nice. Beautiful warm weather and lunch with snowcapped mountains on the other side of the jade green lake.

Caught the bus to Vadivia. Got to stop going to V places...

Adios,

David & Vanessa
