After a long transit in lima i arrived in Rio. I was sat in Lima Airport for 13 hours so not much fun. To exacerbate an already bad mood I arrived and my airport transfer didn't turnup.
My first day in Rio wasn't great as i was tired and bored and nobody in the hostel was very friendly so I didn't speak to everyone. Luckily later on some guys moved into my room so i eventually had someone to speak to. After cooking some pasta and pesto we headed out for a few drinks. The guys in my room (Ian and Phillip) knew a couple of Brazilian girls so we went to a bar with them.
The following day after a lyein I found Ian and Phillip chatting to two girls in reception (Cat and Liz). We all decided to meet up later that evening to head to a club.
The evening was really good as we had a few drinks in the hostel before heading to the club. In the que to the club i bumped into a coupple of girls that got off of the Dragoman truck in Lima but i met them for a few days so we had a good chat and dance.
The following day supprisingly i wasn't nursing a hangover. I decided to go for a walk up the beach so wandered down to Ipanema beach. I bumped into Liz and Cat on the beach and after a 1hour walk up the beach walking in the sea etc i returned to them and chilled for a few hours. When we returned to the hostel we discovered that it was the Copa Libitadores final (South American Champions League) so we decided to go to the pub and watch it. The match was between Chivas (Chile) and Interpendiente (Brazil). Inter ended up wining 3-2 but they were 1-0 down about 10mins before the end.
The next day was a hard one. Me, Liz and Cat wlaked up the beach to Copacabanna. We pretty much just sat on the beach all day untill we could take it o more. After returning to the hostel we met up with Ryan and got a Taxi to Suggar Loaf to watch the sun set. to get the top of Suggar Loaf you have to take 2 cable cars but it was good fun. The sunset itself was really pretty but watching all the lights of Rio come on after it was set was also really cool. In the evening we went to a restaurant where you load up your plate with food and then pay for how much it weighs.
The next day i went to the beach again with Liz and Cat and eventually had swimmshorts on so went into the sea. In the afternoon we went to see a street artist that was related to one of the staff in the hostel. It was really cool we went to his studio where he produces his posters and work before walking around the streetes where he showed us where he had put his work up.
In the evening we went to Lapa for a street party. After a wander around we ended up under some arches listeneing to live Brazillian music drinking on the streets untill the early hours.
Today I went to see Christo Redeamer. This is the statue that you see in almost every picture of Rio. Ryan had met a couple of Brazilian girls in Lapa the night previously so they took us to the statue. The statue is really cool. The views from up there are really good and its another must-do tourist attraction ticked off.
