My Scholarship entry - A 'place' I have visited

After 4 years of trudging through the mire of biochemistry, I finally received my degree from the University of the Philippines Manila. My college is sandwiched between the Supreme Court and Department of Justice, so one can picture why it is always a field day for the local media there. Whenever I walk through the media and news crews in between classes, I end up lagging behind my friends because of the time I spend ogling at the lenses, cameras, and other equipment the photojournalists use.

I always and repeatedly tell my friends that I wish to become a photographer one day. I believe that photography is a tool that can educate people, preserve moments, and promote awareness. Though I graduated from a science degree, I feel that it should not hinder me from following my passion. In an interesting way, biochemistry and photography aren’t too different—they both help people recognize the hidden beauty of things and give us new ways to look at the world. I want to be able to expose the beauty that this world can offer so that we stop taking these for granted.
