I regretted the late 10pm night as we were forced out of bed at 5am, huddling in the dining room as we waited for the plane to arrive at the airport. I nibbled on a breakfast burritom, an odd combination of cheese, potato, onion and mushroom wrapped in a chapati. Thankfully the local sauce came in a seperate dish as it was hot!
The siren blared, telling us to rush to the airport as the plane landed. We nervously looked over at the runway which seemed to end mid-strip. Thankfully I was too tired/sleepy to consider the take-off fully, the wet runway didnt seem too safe! The terminal was even better, the first part consisted of two empty desks that said "fast food" and "insurance"! It didn't get much more sophisticated but it did get dirtier. To our surprise it had a "VIP" room which we could enter but no shock when it was just the toilets!
As we plodded out onto the plane we greeted all the fresh-faced trekkers that were setting out. It was surreal to see them as we now looked so dirty and tired! In the plane I let the others get a good seat, but noone really cared about the view, moreso the pilots fast movements as we took off! A few people had the video camera out.
Halfway through the flight Robyn realised that she hadn't put the knife in the bag again - it was attatched on the outside of her bag! Shows how good the security was.
We landed down to a chilly Kathmandu. Dropped the group off at the hotel and suddenly I was by myself in Thamel again, at only 8am! I went straight to my hotel, dumped my bags and had a cold morning shower. I had toughened up a little against the cold during the trek and could do it with ease! Now clean and freezing I wasn't too sure what to do without Karma to point the way to trek! I tried to organise but only ended up dumping everything in an organised mess on the bed. Gathered up my laundry, which was pretty much everything and totalled 5kgs! I looked like an idiot carrying the massive bag down the street.
By 9am the hotel guys were all up and gave me a big namaste when they saw me. I think they were worried that I'd done a runner and left my bags without paying! But seeing as my bill will probably amount to 100 dollars or so for the better part of two months I'd rather pay that then lose my bags and gear!
Now totally bored and lost I spent most of the day updating the blog, which takes a lot longer than I thought! In the end I gave up and had a lonesome beer at my favourite little pub. Caved in for some banana fritters when elatedly I saw the swedes in the same restaurant! Glad to no longer be alone I chatted to them before they headed back to their hotel and I was left to eat my fritters by myself!
Back at the hotel I chatted to the hotel guys for a bit but they only seemed to want me to buy hashish or get some guava juice to share with them! No idea why guava juice but they all seem pretty keen to have some. To be fair I did have a quick squiz for some when I stocked up on water and toilet paper but another guest must have already bought it all for them!
