Day 19 - Yes, Everest is Cold

NEPAL | Sunday, 2 March 2008 | Views [337] | Comments [1]

Bloody cold day. Made getting out of bed really hard, even if I only have a shitty blanket covering me. The cold shower was an experience I never want to go through again, dont care how badly I smell.

Slow office day as the printer was goign haywire. But at 5pm I went with Subash to a group meeting for a bunch of trekkers. Was interesting seeing how it happened, and how dumb some people can be. Bloody canadian was asking the stupidest questions - is it going to be cold? So i will need to buy a jumper? Umm your going to Everest base camp. 5,545m above sea level. It snows.

I did some haggling and shopping around, not to buy anything but just to get an idea of prices. Pretty crazy how one item can be so much more expensive than the exact thing around the corner.

As I ordered some momos soup for dinner, i decided to have something thats been catching my eye on the menu for quite some time. Tongba - A Tibetan Hot beer made by drinking a millet mixture through a bamboo straw. When i thought about it, it really doesnt sound too nice and surprise, it tasted like crap. Was really sour and because of the need to drink it through a piece of bamboo I couldnt be polite and scull it. They had also decided to serve it up in the biggest mug they could find, so I had no chance of finishing it. It was gross.
