    The roads in Taksim Square remain empty while pedestrian tourists (since local Turks were banned from the square) filter around the police blockades. by: cici Views[504] The usually bustling square of Taksim is now empty as the police cleared the area after the May Day riots. This is the iconic Monument of the Republic whose solitude is shared with the birds. by: cici Views[761] Bored policemen tried to find a way to spend their time in Taksim Square. They took to attempting to startle the pigeons into flying in formation. by: cici Views[542] Two policemen wearing gas masks around their necks unwind after a chaotic morning.
