Novice Monks

My Scholarship entry - A 'place' I have visited

2) Inside, the temple is filled with monks, dignitaries and the family members of the 65 boys that are commencing with the ordination ceremony to become novice monks. The boys wear white robes for the days prior to their ordination, where they learnt of the rigors of their future life and that represent Brahmanism, the religion before Buddha’s enlightenment. With newly shaven heads and white strings about the wrists for good luck, they kneel holding their new robes.
