Blackpool Tower, the UK’s answer to the Paris landmark the Eiffel Tower, is a popular tourist attraction which opened in 1894 in the seaside resort Blackpool, Lancashire. The tower is a Grade I listed building and the 120th tallest freestanding tower in the world. Blackpool Tower is home to a circus, a world-famous ballroom, a dungeon tour and an observation deck offering great views out over the vibrant town.

Blackpool Tower Circus

At the base of the tower sits the Tower Circus which opened on the 14th of May in 1894. The circus ring has been designed so it can be lowered and submerged into a pool of water at around 4ft 6 inches deep and is only one of four in the world capable of doing so. The circus shows include everything from jugglers to comedy acts to impressive acrobatic stunts.

The Tower Ballroom

The ballroom at Blackpool Tower has been part of the tower since its opening. The ballroom was badly damaged in a fire in 1956 with the dancefloor being completely destroyed. After being fully restored by 1958, the ballroom peaked in popularity and to this day is still hugely popular, in part thanks to the BBC show Strictly Come Dancing which has broadcast shows on and off from the Blackpool Tower Ballroom.

The Blackpool Dungeon

Where the aquarium once sat in the tower, now sits the Blackpool Dungeon immersive experience. Explore the gruesome history of Blackpool by taking a trip round the Blackpool Dungeon exhibits where you can tour 360 sets, with actors in clothing from the time period leading the way. Tour sets such as the Dark Chapel and The Red Lion pub as well as visit the infamous Plague Doctor. Normal opening times for the Blackpool Dungeon are between 10.30 am and 4 pm.

The Observation Deck

The observation deck at the top of the tower, named the Blackpool Tower Eye, sits 380 feet off the ground, offering views out across the town, across to the Isle of Man and all the way to the Lake District. The observation deck opened in 2011 after major renovation. The Tower Eye experience starts with a 4D film depicting Blackpool and the local area. Feeling brave? Why not take a walk across the Sky Walk which has a glass floor offering views all the way to the ground?

Dino Golf

New in 2018 is the Dino Mini Golf experience. Explore the Jurassic with the 9-hole mini golf course! The Dino Golf course is great for families or team building experiences. Ticket for adults are £5 and £3.50 for a child.

Although a seaside resort, Blackpool has so much more going for it than just the beach. Blackpool is vibrant city with something for families as well as partiers with so many choices of amazing restaurants and bars as well as affordable luxury hotels like the Village Hotel.
