Bangkok- Day 3

THAILAND | Saturday, 19 March 2011 | Views [344]

This morning we went in search of westerner breakfast...... It ended up being a massive exploration morning, we walked forever in search of a cafe that even served toast........... no luck!

We ended up in what we thought was Chinatown until we asked someone and they said it was Indiantown... Could have guessed!!!!!: They were all Indian and every shop was a material shop (to make the Saris (don't know if that is how you spell that).

On the way back I had the best Pork bun since we have been here! It was like heaven wrapped in white baking paper! - and it was from some little restaurant where no one spoke English!

We then took the ferry home and it was time for Ross to get his first filling! While he was off I went across the road to this massage parlour: It was soo beautiful and it looked and smelt like a day spa! I was thinking to myself this is going to be expensive, but no, again 150 Baht for an hour and it was amazing!!!! so much better than the others I have had!

I then went and bought credit to activate my global roaming. OMG $30 down the drain $16 on a phone call to Dad and $14 him making one to me! Its just crazy!!!! Ross was laughing at me trying to tell me he knew it would be that expensive (as if he did!) hahha since though, I have been talking to a guy and he said I should get a Thai sim card and use a calling card to call- works out to be .95 of a baht per minute to a landline! Soooo good!

By the time Ross got back (his tooth ended up costing 1000baht for a filling which equivalent to $33) it was late afternoon: LUNCH TIME! We have been trying to go to all the places that Lonely Planet have mentioned in their book 'Bangkok Encounter' because it is so easy to wander around and around and end up getting crap food from a stall that is close by, cause you've had enough of walking! So we went to a place called 'Roti Mataba' It is some kind of Muslim/ Thai restaurant where they make the Roti bread in front of you by slapping it on the bench to stretch it and then fry it! Well Ross is sold! He loves it and it worked out to be 135baht $4.55 for the both of us..... mind you we both had a curry, two roti bread each and a full cream coke each..... pretty good value for money hey!

At night we have been trying to go out as late as possible for dinner cause nothing opens until 11am and closes in the early hours of the morning. So already having 3 more hours (we are 3 hours behind you guys) in the mornings up our sleeve (I am waking up at 3am Bangkok time) and having to wait for anything to open til 11am we are trying to have late nights so we sleep in and adust to their way of life!

We found ourselves, after we had spicy chicken and rice from a little stall near the Khao San, around the corner from where we are staying at a funky little place called 'Jazz Happens' It was amazing, and the band were all young uni students from the faculty of music.. What was more intriguing was that the singer; who could only speak Thai was singing in English! And really well at that! This area called Pra Athrit is where all the young (not feral) cool young Thais come to hang out at night time.... and its only around the corner....

I feel we are staying in the best area of Bangkok...far enough away from the backpacker scene but with heaps of decent places to eat and drink and see... we have done well!!!

Well off to sleep now. Goodnight!!!! x
